Massachusetts sees highest number of flu cases in years and only 2 out of 5 people are vaccinated

Feb 13, 2025
In Massachusetts, lots of people are getting the flu. Doctors say it's the worst it’s been in years! Many kids and grown-ups are feeling sick with body aches, fevers, and sore throats. Some even need to go to the hospital. Right now, about 38 out of 100 people have gotten their flu shot. That’s not enough! The flu shot helps keep you safe. Doctors say everyone who is at least six months old should get it. Even if you get the shot, you might still catch the flu, but you’ll feel better and won’t be as sick. The flu can be very dangerous for young kids, babies, and older people. If you think you have the flu, it’s super important to call your doctor right away. They might give you special medicine to help you feel better faster. In fact, this year more people have died from the flu than from COVID-19 for the first time since the pandemic started. Isn't that scary? So, if you haven’t had your flu shot yet, ask a grown-up to help you get it. It can keep you from getting really sick. The flu season can last until April, so it's not too late! Remember, wash your hands, cover your mouth when you cough, and if you feel sick, stay home and rest. Your health is important! Let's all do our best to stay healthy and help others too.
