Feb 13, 2025
In Texas, there are many cases of measles. A measles outbreak has grown to 24 sick people. This started in Gaines County. Most of the people are kids who didn’t get their shots. Some are grown-ups too. Nine people had to go to the hospital because they were very sick. Measles is very catchable. This means it can spread quickly, so many more people might get sick soon. Health workers are trying to find out where else it might spread. Nearby New Mexico also has a case. A teenager there got measles but didn’t go to Texas. Health officials are telling everyone that it’s important to get vaccinated. The vaccine helps keep people safe from measles. In other news, the Oropouche virus is spreading in some South American countries. This virus can make people sick, just like dengue fever. Lots of cases have been reported, especially in Brazil. Health experts want everyone to pay attention and stay safe. A big project is starting to help find new antibiotics. Three big groups are working together to spend $50 million. They want to create new medicines to fight really bad bacteria. Some of these bacteria are hard to kill, and doctors need new tools. In Nebraska, a disease called Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) has been found in 60 deer and 4 elk. CWD makes them very sick. The state is watching to see how it spreads. They want to keep people and animals safe. Lastly, some hospitals are doing a great job keeping people safe from too many antibiotics. They're working together to teach doctors what to do. This helps people feel better without taking too many medicines. Remember, vaccines and good health practices are ways to stay healthy!
