Northern’s Stage’s ‘King James’ finds humor and heart in basketball

Feb 04, 2025
Two boys, Matt and Shawn, love LeBron James and form an unlikely friendship over it. Matt has tickets for the Cavaliers, and Shawn desperately wants them because LeBron plays. Their friendship grows, even when LeBron leaves the team and returns. They have challenges, but their bond holds strong like brothers. The play, "King James," is funny and heartwarming, showing the power of friendship. The actors, Andrew Gombas and Darius Wright, bring their characters to life on stage. The set, lighting, costumes, and sound design make the play exciting and realistic. Even though there are basketball references and jokes, the play is really about the friendship between Matt and Shawn. It's a story that we can all relate to and enjoy. Northern Stage presents "King James" until February 16 at the Barrette Center for the Arts in White River Junction. You can see it on Wednesday-Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 5 pm.
