NASA Announces Return Date For Astronauts Trapped on ISS

Feb 13, 2025
NASA has exciting news! Two astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, have been living in space on the International Space Station (ISS) for a long time. They were supposed to be there for only eight days, but it's been more than eight months! This happened because their spaceship, the Boeing Starliner, had a problem. NASA needed to find a way to bring them back to Earth. They decided that a different spaceship, made by SpaceX, could help. SpaceX is famous for sending astronauts to space, and Elon Musk is in charge of it. In late January, he promised to bring Butch and Suni home as soon as possible. In September, another SpaceX mission called Crew-9 flew to the ISS with two new astronauts. There were also two empty seats left for Butch and Suni. But the plan changed, and their return got delayed. NASA said that the next mission, Crew-10, is now set to launch on March 12. They are getting ready for it! To get the astronauts back, Crew-10 will use a spaceship called Endurance. This spaceship has been used before, which is quicker than using a new one. The astronauts will spend a few days getting everything ready to come home. Even though they have been in space so long, Butch and Suni are doing well. They said they feel happy, have enough food to eat, and are enjoying their time floating in space. Their long stay in space is impressive, but it isn't the longest. Another astronaut named Frank Rubio stayed for a record 371 days in 2023 because his spaceship had a problem. So, stay tuned! Butch and Suni are expected to return home soon! How cool is that?
