Tennessee's Barry Wilmore to return from space after landing on Trump, Elon Musk radar
Feb 13, 2025
Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams are astronauts from NASA. They live in a place called the International Space Station (ISS). They were supposed to come back to Earth after just 1-2 weeks, but now they have been in space for more than eight months!
Something went wrong with their spacecraft, so they have stayed up there much longer than planned. Their family is hopeful, and they believe everything will be okay. Barry Wilmore’s dad, Eugene, even said, “We hope and pray that everything will go as planned and everyone will be safe.”
People back on Earth, like President Donald Trump, are also waiting for them to come home. He wants another space company owner, Elon Musk, to help bring them back quickly. Musk said he would try to get them home “as soon as possible.” NASA is working hard on this too!
Barry and Sunita went to the ISS to test a spacecraft called the Boeing Starliner. This spacecraft had some problems, and it couldn’t bring anyone back safely. But NASA is now planning to send more astronauts to help them and take Barry and Sunita home. They might leave the ISS around March 12.
While they wait, Barry has been doing important work in space. He has completed five spacewalks! A spacewalk is when astronauts go outside the space station to fix things and do experiments. Barry and Sunita have helped with research and maintenance while up there.
Barry's brother, Jack, said they trust everything will work out in time. They are happy and strong in their faith. Barry and Sunita are brave astronauts making history in space. It is exciting to think about when they will return and be reunited with their families!
