Thanks to NASA, you probably won’t have to worry about this asteroid killing you

Feb 06, 2025
Scientists recently discovered an asteroid called 2024 YR4 that might come close to hitting Earth in 2032. The chances are very low, about 1.9%, but it's still important to keep an eye on it. The asteroid is between 130 to 300 feet wide, which is big enough to cause a lot of damage. If it hits, it could blast things up to 30 miles away! Astronomers use a scale to measure the risk of asteroids hitting Earth, and this one is rated pretty high. But don't worry, scientists are working hard to figure out its exact path and size. It won't come too close to Earth for a while, which gives them time to plan. There are a few ways scientists can prevent the asteroid from hitting us. One way is to send a spacecraft to bump it off course. NASA already did a test like this in 2022! Another way is to use nuclear weapons, but that might not be the best idea. Even though the chances of the asteroid hitting Earth are low, it's good to be prepared just in case. Scientists, government officials, and space agencies are working together to keep an eye on the asteroid and come up with a plan. So, for now, we don't need to worry too much. Just stay tuned for updates!
