This Is Where Asteroid 2024 YR4 Could Strike
Feb 13, 2025
Once upon a time, there was a big rock flying in space called Asteroid 2024 YR4. This asteroid is very large, about as wide as 20 elephants! It is speeding through space and will come close to Earth in December 2032. Some people call it "the city destroyer" because if it hits us, it could cause a huge explosion.
Scientists say there is a chance, just a tiny 2 percent chance, that it could crash into our planet. This is very small, like one out of fifty. When it passes by, it might create a big boom, kind of like a giant firework. It could be super powerful, like 500 times stronger than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima! If it hits, it would be scary and affect a lot of places on Earth.
Experts have looked at where the asteroid could fall. They think it might hit a spot in parts of South America, the Pacific Ocean, or Southern Asia, among other places. Countries like India, Nigeria, and Colombia would need to be careful.
Right now, scientists are watching the asteroid closely. They want to make sure it doesn't come too close. If it does, they have a plan! They might shoot rockets at it to change its path and keep it from hitting us.
This asteroid isn't the only one that has worried scientists. Another asteroid called Apophis was once thought to be a bigger threat, but now we know it won't hit Earth.
The United Nations is also paying attention and is ready to protect our planet. For now, everyone feels safe because we have good scientists watching the sky and finding ways to keep us safe from space rocks. The future is bright, and we will keep our eyes on the stars!
