Google reedits Super Bowl ad after AI cheese gaffe
Feb 06, 2025
Google had to change an ad after an AI mistake about cheese caused a big fuss. The ad was supposed to show how good Google's AI tool, Gemini, is. The commercial was meant for the Super Bowl, a big sports event in America. In the ad, Gemini helps a cheese seller in Wisconsin write about Gouda cheese. But Gemini said Gouda is about 50 to 60% of all cheese people eat. That's not true. The mistake was pointed out by a blogger. Google said it got the wrong information from websites the AI tool used. Now, the ad has been changed and the wrong number is gone. Google talked to the cheese seller and asked how to fix the mistake. The ad now shows what the business would really do with Gemini. Cheese numbers are hard to get exactly right, but cheddar and mozzarella are very popular. The bad AI mistake is embarrassing for Google. This isn't the first time Google had problems with its AI products. Last year, Gemini had to stop working because it showed wrong pictures. It even had trouble with cheese before. Google's AI search tool told people to eat glue to make cheese stick on pizza. Problems with AI tools aren't just with Google. Other companies, like Apple, have had issues too. It's important to be careful with AI because mistakes can happen. Super Bowl ads can cause problems too. Last year, Uber Eats had to change an ad quickly because it made fun of food allergies. AI can be helpful, but sometimes it needs to be checked for mistakes.
