Trump kept Germany’s Scholz in the dark about his Ukraine peace plan

Feb 13, 2025
Once upon a time, there was a leader named Olaf Scholz from Germany. He was chatting with Donald Trump, the President of the United States. Olaf thought that they were both helping a country called Ukraine, which was having a lot of trouble. Ukraine needed help because of some mean actions by Russia. Olaf believed that Trump would keep helping Ukraine. He thought they would work together and keep unity among countries. But one day, Trump surprised everyone! He said he wanted to talk to Russia about stopping the fighting without telling Olaf first. This made Olaf feel confused and left in the dark. Trump announced he would start talks with a man named Vladimir Putin, who was the leader of Russia. Olaf was worried. He felt like important decisions were being made without Ukraine being part of the talk. Olaf wanted to make sure that no solution would hurt Ukraine. Germany had been giving Ukraine a lot of help, just like the U.S. But now, Trump said that Europe should give even more help to Ukraine, instead of the U.S. Olaf thought it wasn't fair that they might not get enough support. He wanted everyone to respect Ukraine’s voice. Then, another important person, Boris Pistorius, who was in charge of Germany's defense, was upset, too. He thought Trump was making big promises to Russia without talking first. He believed it was better to handle everything at the negotiation table, where everyone could speak. Soon, leaders from different countries were meeting. They were hoping to find a way to solve the fighting and make peace. Everyone wanted to help Ukraine but felt nervous about the decisions being made for them. The world was waiting to see what would happen next. Would peace come? And how could everyone work together to keep Ukraine safe and happy? The story continues.
