Trump’s blatant violations of law are precipitating a constitutional crisis

Feb 13, 2025
Once upon a time in a big, busy place called Washington, there were some important people named Donald Trump and JD Vance. They had a special job called the government. But, some other people said they were doing things that weren't fair or right. Mr. Trump tried to do things all by himself without listening to others. He wanted more power, like a king. This worried many wise people because they believed everyone should share power and make decisions together. They called this idea "checks and balances." JD Vance, Mr. Trump's helper, said that judges couldn't tell Mr. Trump what to do. This made even more wise people frown. They thought everyone should follow the rules of the land, especially Mr. Trump, who was in charge. They said it wasn't okay for him to just ignore the rules whenever he wanted. There were other important jobs in the government like checking for bad behavior and helping people, but Mr. Trump wanted to change them too. He even fired people without telling anyone first, which made a lot of people upset. There were fights in court where judges said Mr. Trump couldn't just do whatever he felt like. Some judges stopped his plans, and that made Mr. Trump very mad. They were like the scorekeepers of fairness, making sure that everyone followed the rules. The wise people were worried that if Mr. Trump kept doing things his way, someday it might lead to a scary place called dictatorship. That’s when one person has all the control, and that isn’t good for anyone. So, everyone hoped that the judges would keep standing up and say, "No, you can't do that!" because sharing power is super important. The people wanted a fair government where everyone’s voice counts, like a big team. And just like that, they dreamed of a happy land where rules helped everyone play fair!
