Gov. Kathy Hochul halts Trump meeting in wake of bombshell DOJ...
Feb 13, 2025
Once upon a time in New York, there was a big meeting planned between Gov. Kathy Hochul and President Trump. They wanted to have lunch together. But then, some serious news came out. The Justice Department, which helps keep the law, said it was suing New York. They did not like a law in New York that lets some people, called illegal immigrants, get driver's licenses.
The government said, “New York is not keeping laws.” They were unhappy with a rule called the "Green Light Law." This law stops the DMV from sharing information about who has a driver's license unless a judge says it's okay. The Justice Department said that New York was prioritizing illegal immigrants over its own citizens.
Gov. Hochul decided to cancel the lunch with Trump because of this lawsuit. She said that New York's laws were right and that there were rules protecting people's information. She didn’t want just anyone looking at important details about New Yorkers, especially young drivers.
There was also news about Mayor Eric Adams. He was supposed to meet with another government official to talk about helping find illegal migrants who broke the law. Many people were talking about this.
Some parents and community members were upset about recent books in schools, leading to loud meetings. There was sadness as well, with news of tragic events that touched many hearts.
The meeting between Hochul and Trump was moved to next week to talk about all these big ideas. Everybody had different opinions about what was right and wrong. The day ended with lots of people hoping for answers and a better future.
New York was buzzing with conversations, questions, and stories. Some wanted changes, while others were happy with how things were. It was a busy time in the city, with everyone watching what would happen next. And that’s how the story of New York continued!
