Chinese warships approach Australian coast after South China Sea encounter
Feb 13, 2025
Once upon a time, in a big ocean called the Pacific, something surprising happened! Three large ships from China were spotted close to Australia. These ships were like giant boats! They were sailing after China said Australia sent a plane to spy near some islands.
China has many ships, more than any other country. They often go to places far from home. Just last October, some of their ships visited a nearby island called Vanuatu.
Australia loves to keep an eye on its waters. The Australian military said the Chinese ships were in the Coral Sea, which is near Australia. They saw one big ship called CNS Zunyi and two others.
Do you know what else happened? An Australian plane was flying over the South China Sea when it had a close encounter with two Chinese fighter jets! One of those jets zoomed really close and threw out flares, which are like little fire fireworks. No one got hurt, but Australia didn’t like how close that jet was. They told China this wasn't safe or okay.
China said the Australian plane was in their space. They were not happy about the whole thing! Both countries want to make sure their air and sea journeys are safe. Australia said they have the right to travel freely in international areas.
The Australian government wants everyone to be friendly while sailing and flying. They hope for peaceful times ahead, but they know China might keep sending more ships their way.
This story is a lesson about how countries need to talk and keep peace, just like friends do in the playground! Always remember to be careful and respectful, just like the big ships in the ocean!
