Syrian leader lands in Saudi Arabia for first foreign visit since toppling Assad

Ahmed al-Sharaa, the interim president of Syria, went to Saudi Arabia for his first trip abroad. He is trying to show that Syria is shifting away from being friends with Iran. Sharaa used to be with a group called al-Qaida, but now he is leading a group called Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
Saudi Arabia gave money to groups in Syria trying to get rid of the old president, Assad. But Assad stayed in power with help from Iran and Russia. The groups in Syria were pushed back, but HTS led an attack that changed things in December.
Now Sharaa is trying to make friends with the west and get rid of the sanctions on Syria. The country needs lots of money to rebuild after many years of war. Saudi Arabia has been talking to Syria and trying to help.
Syria still has problems with groups like the Islamic State and other rebels. Recently, there was a bomb that killed people in a city in Syria. The rebels backed by Turkey took control of that city in December.
Overall, Sharaa's trip to Saudi Arabia is a big deal because it shows that Syria is trying to make new friends and move away from Iran. They want to rebuild the country and make life better for the people who live there.
